David
Erin

&
Our Story

How it started

We met online at the dawn of the pandemic. We talked for a month without meeting. Yet David was hesitant to get together in person. We finally settled on a COVID-safe date plan—a picnic by the Fremont cut, a waterway passing under the Fremont bridge with trails running alongside. David arrived on his bike, rather sweaty. Erin drove and wore a mask. David brought a poncho for us to sit on and we split a beer from Holy Mountain (using individual cups, of course). We talked for hours about anything and everything and it was just like online but better.

We decided to meet up again. This time David insisted on making Erin ride a bike, which she had not done since childhood. She was very uncomfortable, but he taught her to shift gears and made her do loops in a parking lot before taking to the streets. She hated it, but she wanted him to like her so she pretended to sort of like it.

Even if we had different preferences in mode of transportation, we found that we shared many of the same values, sense of humor/mischief, work ethic, travel style, thriftiness, pragmatism, taste in food, minimalism, homebodiness, and obsession with Mexican things. And that‘s what really matters. Though Erin did eventually warm up to biking.

We spent the pandemic in each other‘s company. We feel a little bad admitting it, but we had a great time. David showed Erin all his favorite spots in Seattle (she was still fairly new in the city) and together, we discovered many more. We got loads of takeout food, worked remotely from David‘s apartment, and spent the winter holidays together.

The pandemic finally came to an end, but nothing changed. We still had a desire to spend every day together and confide in each other everything. We continued to form new inside jokes and David continued to cook Erin lots of good food and take great pictures of her everywhere we went. It eventually became clear that we wanted to be more than pandemic buddies. So, we’re inviting you to join us in transitioning to life buddies.

Marriage Celebration

We will marry in Mexico City in November 2024 in the presence of our dear family and close friends. We hope this can be an escape for you in a place that we love.

A special place to us

Why Mexico?

Erin first went to Mexico City with her mom when she was 8 (her first time leaving the U.S.!). When she was a junior in high school, she lived in Saltillo, Coahuila with gracious host families from the Rotary International Exchange Program for 10 months. For over 15 years, David has spent his holidays in Morelia, Michoacan where his parents are permanent residents. We share a love for Mexican culture, music, food, and dialect (the “correct” form of Spanish, in our opinion), ignited by our early experiences in Mexico and its lasting impression.

Fork

Eat

  • Churreria El Moro $

The best churros and hot chocolate in Mexico. Has several locations throughout the city. Erin recommends the extra thick and sweet “Espanol” chocolate, while David prefers the lighter “Mexicano” style.

  • Antojitos Dany $

David’s favorite place to get pambazo, a sandwich with bread dipped and fried in red guajillo pepper sauce.

  • Taquería Selene $

Great al pastor joint. If you like cheese, get it in the alambre de al pastor con queso.

  • Isla del Dragon $

If you want a change from Mexican food, head to this all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet. Get ready for the richest sweet and sour sauce of your life.

Atole

Drink

  • Pulquería La Hija de los Apaches $

This homey bar has various flavors of pulque, a sweet, lightly alcoholic drink made of fermented agave (so of course David likes it). Live cumbia music in the evening, too.

  • Deseo Café de Especialidad$

Nice spot for coffee, which you can get served in a cup that is also a cookie. A nice treat. Good breakfast, too.

Glasses

See

  • La Ciudadela

The site of Erin’s first shopping spree. An artisanal market with a fine selection of fairly-priced handicrafts from all over Mexico. It used to be normal to bargain in La Ciudadela, but it seems less common nowadays. Still, it doesn’t hurt to try and will likely succeed if you are buying 3+ items from a stall.

  • Parque Chapultepec

A forest in the city, built around a castle. Great for taking a stroll, people watching, or picnicking. Vendors selling snacks and tchotchkes line the paths. Keep an eye out for the older man making tiny oil paintings and buy one for a unique souvenir.

We put together a detailed guide to help anyone unfamiliar with travel to Mexico.

If you wish to honor us with an additional gift, note that our suitcases will be quite space-constrained. Please consider a nice card or sending us something consumable in January when we'll most definitely be back in Seattle.
